If Falk finds a team ready to give Monroe the max or something close to it, expect Detroit to match the offer sheet and worry about the money later. At worst, you'd have a 24-year-old, 6-foot-10 power forward under contract that you'd then be able to shop. The Pistons had to lose a lot to wind up with top-10 picks in three straight Drafts. Those assets mean more to them than they probably do to others.

Not shocking to me. Can't let him walk, regardless of the price.

Yall know how I feel about Monroe and Drummond next to each other. Two guys who don't have any game outside of the paint make it really difficult for an offense to be successful. Add Josh Smith to that, and it's kind of magnified. For that reason I don't really like that mindset, just not a combination that will make a team successful.

When Monroe and Drummond are on the court together, the team is a -6.2 net, has a low assist percentage, a poor ast/to ratio, a poor shooting percentage, and the pace of the team slows down. It's probably the worst lineup that the Pistons consistently put on the court. A Drummond/Smith lineup is actually about 3 pts better.

With all that said, I'm curious what that pairing would look like if you put a premium floor spacer (or two) next to it.

You pay him now and worry about it later. You can't let a player with his talent walk. And if they do end up trading him, it won't be hard to deal a talented big man who is under contract.

We've already determined we aren't going to get fair value for him now given the current circumstances. No reason to trade him for the sake of trading him. Plus we've seen what Dumars has done in panic modes regarding trades. Just give him his money and assess it from there, with hopefully a new GM.

What would fair value be in your opinion?

A guy like Klay Thompson, Thad Young, Jeff Green. Players in that caliber range.
