Pistons, Greg Monroe Negotiations Stall After $60M Offer

The Detroit Pistons have moved from the initial five-year, $60-million offer to Greg Monroe, and an offer that’s slightly better than the four-year, $54-million deal that Josh Smith signed last summer is on the table.

The two sides have yet to agree on a deal and negotiations are not ongoing.

Monroe could still accept the qualifying offer of $5.4 million. Deadline for the qualifying offer is Oct. 1.

he clearly doesn't want to be here. we need to try our hardest to get some value for him before he's gone or starts disrupting the team.

I'm starting to think those rumors about him not wanting to play with Josh Smith were 100% true.

If so, Stan is dumb for not moving Josh when he had the chance.

He currently has the worst contract in the league. Nobody was giving them a deal

Yeah if there was a deal that Van Gundy was satisfied with he would have taken it, team like Sacramento was asking for a favor to take Smith, I'm sure of that.

And honestly this is probably for the best. Move Smith to his more suitable big spot, and get rid of that Monroe-Drummond duo. I know you guys wanted that to work but that duo just doesn't mesh well together.

nah, i knew it wouldn't. greg doesn't have it on him to develop a mid range. his form is too slow for it. even josh isn't ideal next to dre but he's an upgrade to greg and dre.

i may be wrong but our team did better with greg and josh on the floor together, defensively and offensively.

The Kings approached us about him on two separate occasions. There was obviously a chance to move him.

Sure they had a chance, but that doesn't always mean it's something they should do.

I don't think you can hold not moving Smith against Stan though.

Dumars could have traded him for flat expiring at the deadline last season and didn't, so there was more than two chances.

Would I like to see a front court of the future of Monroe and Drummond with Smith gone?  Yeah, I would.  But that assumes that the issue with Monroe not wanting to be here doesn't lie deeper than just not wanting to co-exist with Smith.

Smith can probably be a much more valuable player playing at the four and a very athletic and defensive minded front court of Smith and Drummond COULD be a good thing.  I'm going to guess this is what the new management saw and they were banking on being able to sign and trade Monroe, and therefore they became bullish on the Smith trades.  Well now it looks like that sign and trade is not a realistic possibility.

I'm going to predict Monroe takes the qualifying offer to become an unrestricted FA next season and then walks.  That gives us one more year of the Smith/Monroe problem, but it is what it is.

If the team is serious about trying to win this season, they'll run Smith at four and bring Monroe off of the bench, but we'll see if thats a battle they're willing to fight.

Yeah I said it a few days ago, I think Monroe is going to end up taking the QO. Unless a S&T comes out of left field.
