For the last few months, the Trail Blazers have been in back-and-forth discussions with Phil Jackson in an attempt to persuade him to take their head coaching vacancy, a close source said.

Last week, Jackson’s agent, Todd Musburger, informed the Trail Blazers that Jackson was flattered, but has decided he would not coach this upcoming season.

Phil Jackson is interested in a potential front office role with the Blazers.

“Phil would be interested in talking about a possible role in the organization," a source close to Jackson said. “My sense is there is a lot Phil can offer by being there, be it handling players, advising trade scenarios, managing coaching staff ... I think he would be a tremendous adviser to the owner."

Jackson turned down a previous offer to return to the NBA as coach of the Blazers.

“We told them he didn’t want to be head coach, but that we had interest in Phil speaking with Paul Allen," the source said. “Is that door still open? That’s up to Paul Allen. But Phil is open to a conversation."
