The Carolina Hurricanes may have drafted defensemen Mark Alt in the second round of the 2010 draft, but the Philadelphia Flyers have announced that they have actually signed him. The 21-year-old played for the University of Minnesota for three years and tips the scales at 6-feet-2 inches, weighing 205 pounds. His size and speed are exactly what the Flyers need on the back end, especially with all of the holes along their blue line.
GM Paul Holmgren called him a “good, young prospect” after the team traded for him in the Brian Boucher deal with the Hurricanes earlier this year. That trade saw Brian Boucher head back to the Flyers, along with Alt, in exchange for prospect Luke Pither. He is an athletic young man, as a former high school quarterback and son of Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle John Alt.
