he won't do that, but it wouldn't really be a bad idea to take the one year deal, because he'll get a lot more that $140M as a UFA

It really doesn't matter. Assuming he stays healthy next year, he'll probably hit the Rose Rule, so his max will be a percentage of the salary cap, not a set figure.

He would stand to lose somewhere between 30-50 million if he did that.

He's going to sign this deal in early July and then the Pelicans are on the clock to do something significant in the next four years, or you will hear rumblings that he wants to be dealt.
