Patriots placed CB Leigh Bodden on injured reserve with a torn rotator cuff in his shoulder, ending his season.
There was never an indication Bodden's injury could be year-ending thanks to the Pats' secretiveness. He made his preseason debut last Thursday. Signed to a $22 million, four-year deal this spring, Bodden's loss will thrust rookie Devin McCourty into the starting lineup opposite Darius Butler. Also lacking pass rushers, New England's pass defense will be one to target for matchup purposes. Tom Brady may also be forced to throw more to keep up. Aug. 31 - 6:54 pm et

Tough loss for the Patriots. This is going to make their secondary even more a target..

Leigh Bodden is just an average corner

For a weak secondary, an average corner is pretty valuable.

Leigh Bodden was garbage in Detroit and like Cheato said he's not a lockdown corner or anything, he's average. Sucks for the Patriots that they just signed him to an extension and they have a weak secondary.

McCourtney and Butler can be a pretty good combo, both really young, recently drafted pretty high by the Pats, they just need to find more depth.

You guys miss the point... It is about depth. Did you read the article? They are forced to start TWO very young guys, who haven't had much NFL experience. That is tough to do.

If anyone can do it, it's the Pats... They took Ellis Hobbs and Asante Samuel and groomed them to be very good, or in Samuel's case, top notch CBs.
