Patriots acquired OLB/DE Derrick Burgess from the Raiders in exchange for "undisclosed draft considerations."
The Raiders were believed to be asking for a third- and a fourth-rounder, but the price may have dropped with Burgess' holdout. The talented but injury-prone veteran fills the Pats' biggest defensive need as a pass rushing presence at weak outside linebacker. He'll likely replace Pierre Woods as the expected starter while giving the Pats' defense/special teams a fantasy boost. Aug. 6 - 5:49 pm et

Decent move here by the Pats. What are your thoughts guys?

This is the move to make of for not getting Peppers. I like the move, the more d-linemen you have the better!

Very true. I believe that he still has some juice left in the tank and they probably didn't give up much to get him. I mean, if I was Burgess I would be pissed in Oakland too... lol, that's a given.

The Patriots gave the Raiders a 2010 3rd round pick and a 2010 4th round pick according to boston.com.

It's surprising Al Davis would deal with the Patriots again after losing so badly in the Randy Moss deal. Nice acquisition.

How will he be used? The Pats run a 3-4 right? I don't think he'd fit as a 3-4 DE.

I heard for a short time in Oakland he was used as a 3-4 OLB and the Patriots have a hole there to fill. He will likely be used similarly to Adalius Thomas. They are both fast enough to be a 3-4 OLB and big enough to be a 4-3 DE. He can line up as a 3-4 OLB then go up to the line or line up as a DE and drop back to OLB, helping to confuse the offense. It'll be interesting to see how he adapts to the Patriots' scheme.
