Today NFL.coms Adam Schefter reported that the Eagles and Patriots signed off on a deal that would send 29 year old WR Greg Lewis to New England, where he would most likely replace Jabar Gaffney in the #3 spot.

This is interesting news given the fact that the Patriots were rumored to have been meeting with veteran receiver Joey Galloway.

Terms of the deal have been disclosed aside from Lewis, so we're still not sure who the Eagles will be receiving in this deal.

The Eagles have been searching for a receiver this offseason so it's interesting that they would trade Lewis. Following the losses of Sheppard, Buckhalter and Dawkins, the Eagles may be cleaning house. One option is that they are clearing room for a higher tier Free Agent, but barring their recent losses I think they have enough CAP room to go out there. My assumption is they are clearing roster space for a near-future sign. -- GMF
