On Friday morning, Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane(notes) took the Stanley Cup to Niagara Falls, where he was saturated in the rushing waters while hoisting the chalice. Perhaps, then, we should be thankful an awkward and potentially dangerous mishap during his day with the Cup waited until he was back in his hometown of Buffalo.

After taking the Cup to the Roswell Park Cancer Institute and visiting Local 6 Ironworkers at a building under construction, Kane met with members of the Buffalo Fire Department and took the Stanley Cup skyward in the bucket of a fire engine's large ladder, in order to take photos with the Cup raised above his head while above the city.

Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun Times said a quick jolt from the motor startled Kane, who kept his composure. He'd need to keep it again after the ladder raised him 70 feet into the Buffalo skyline ... because Kane remained there for a good 20 minutes, stuck in the air with the Stanley Cup.

From Dan Rosen of NHL.com:

Kane and the Cup were stuck about three stories up in the bucket of a fire engine for about 20 minutes because the motor that controls the ladder had stopped working. After calling in the technicians, the firemen finally got their ladder working and Kane was returned successfully down to earth.

As he stepped off the ladder he was visibly shaking.

"It was a little scary, but anything with this (the Cup) is unexpected," a clearly relieved Kane said after making his way down. "I'm just happy to be out."

Glad it all worked out, but he's been through worse. Stanley, we mean. After being bashed on the ground at a chili joint and stolen/neglected through the last century and pooped on by a baby and embarrassed on national television by Def Leppard, you think the Cup's afraid of heights?

We'll update with video of Kane's airborne ordeal in Buffalo if it becomes available; meanwhile, here's a bird's-eye view of the former U.S. Olympian's shower at the Falls:

lulz. what a scare
