Panthers Narrow No. 1 Overall Pick To 4 Choices

ESPN.com - The Panthers have narrowed their choices for the No. 1 overall pick in Thursday's draft to quarterback Cam Newton, defensive tackle Marcell Dareus, cornerback Patrick Peterson and wide receiver A.J. Green, team sources told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio on Wednesday.

Panthers GM Marty Hurney said at Tuesday's pre-draft news conference that the team is keeping all of its options open.

They'll definitely be taking Cam Newton now, there's no question about it. No one selects a CB or a WR at #1 if they're in a sane mind. They aren't considering Gabbert so that means that Newton should be the pick.

They would be much better off in the long run if they took Dareus.

It's a foregone conclusion that they will go with Newton at this point, though.

One NFL source tells Chris Mortensen there is a 99.9 percent chance the Panthers select Cam Newton with the No. 1 pick.
There's still no word from the Panthers organization. If fans are hoping for A.J. Green, Patrick Peterson, or Marcel Dareus, though, they're setting themselves up for disappointment. It's looking more and more like there's little chance of a last-minute "shocker."
