Packers agreed to terms with OLB Clay Matthews on a five-year, $66 million contract extension through 2018.

The deal will likely include more than the $40 million guaranteed DeMarcus Ware brought home in 2009. Matthews, who has 43 sacks through his first 58 NFL games, was going into the final year of his rookie contract. The deal could include a fairly sizable 2013 cap hit, as the Pack have worked diligently to keep space open this season. Next on the docket for Green Bay is Aaron Rodgers, who should sign the most lucrative contract in league history.

You have to wonder what this does for his deal.

That's a lot of money for a not-a-top-10 linebacker.

Clay is the best 3-4 OLB in the NFL

That's up for debate, but not being top 10 certainly isn't.

Who is better? It's either him or Aldon Smith, and Clay is better in the run game by far

Aldon rated out +7.8 against the run and Clay rated out +7.4

its funny when you do the eye test and think one player is better and then check the stats and its the other, even funnier when its hardly by much, but hes still better.

to me the eye test is still effective but stats show so much more.

Clay is not better than DeMarcus Ware.
please wake me up when you see Demarcus Ware playing OLB this season, because the Cowboys run the 4-3 now...
