IRVING, Texas -- Terrell Owens wore a shoe on his left foot for the first time in 2008 on Wednesday, but he's still not able to practice for the Dallas Cowboys.
Owens, who suffered a high ankle sprain on Dec. 22 in a game against Carolina, isn't wearing the walking boot he has used to protect his left foot. He is able to jog and Cowboys' coach Wade Phillips says he may practice late next week. The Cowboys expect Owens to play in their divisional playoff game on Jan. 13.
"Even in the game when he got hurt, he walked off the field and he walked up and down the sideline like he might play again," Phillips said, quoted in the Dallas Morning News. "I don't have any doubt about [his toughness], but we'll have to be careful. We'd like to have him for more than one game, too, so you've got to be careful there."
Sam Hurd, who replaced Owens in the season finale loss to Washington, expects Owens in the lineup for the playoff opener.
"He said he's going to be ready, so we think he's going to be ready," Hurd said, according to the Morning News. "We're going to prepare, first, to be with him, because he said he's going to be ready, and we believe in him."
