Signs a 1-year, minor league with Spring Training invite. I have a feeling Jair will spend a quarter of the season in the minors and then get a call up b/c of injury. Doesn't take Nostradamus to predict that; however, Jair had a decent chunk of quality-starts for the Braves last season that I think many are overlooking. He was keeping runs low and going five to six innings per start....and then he shelved with injury again. I don't think we'll see rookie phenom type of stuff from his again but I believe he can work himself in as the four or five on a lot of big league teams.

I'm surprised how quickly he fell off the market. Even with the injuries. We've seen much worse pitchers, more injury-riddled pitchers and hitters, all getting bigger contracts the last few years.

For the Orioles this is such a high-reward type of deal for them if he stays healthy, although that is a big if.

He won't be a stud or have that "rookie phenom" stuff you mentioned -- he was never a strikeout pitcher, always gave up a lot of hits -- he got himself out of trouble a lot and certainly will not get away with that in the AL East. But he can be a solid back-end of the rotation guy, without a doubt; just has to stay healthy.
