Greg Oden is "strongly leaning" toward accepting Portland's $8.8 million qualifying offer.

Oden would then become an unrestricted free agent in 2012, joining a class that also includes Dwight Howard, Deron Williams and Chris Paul. Several teams are creating cap space for that class and Oden could become a consolation prize if he is able to remain healthy.

I see him sticking with them for now. I really hope he can play this year (and not get hurt again)

I'd take the 8.8M no questions asked.

The thing is he could decline and sign somewhere else.

There is bound to be at least 1 team that would throw a lot of money his way.

If anyone gives Oden 8.8M that GM needs to be ran out of town lol

Same thing goes with TC's 20.7M.

Just shows how important the big man is. And how few of them are real good in this league.

Greg Oden expects to receive medical clearance on Thursday to resume playing after being sidelined since December of 2009, when he fractured his left patella in a game against Houston.

"All reports so far have been positive," said Bill Duffy, who serves as Oden's agent along with Mike Conley Sr. "But there is still no timetable for his return. We'll see how his medical evaluation goes."

Blazers team president Larry Miller echoed Duffy's optimism, saying Oden appears to be on schedule for a January return to the court.

djt, NO team would offer more than that. because of the chance he could go down again i wouldnt see him catching more than $5Mill. his upside isnt as good anymore but i still think he can be a solid starting center. maybe in a few years he could get that $10Mill+ type deal but not now.

Yeah, Oden would be real dumb not to accept that.

Its too risky to try and sign elsewhere. Too many question marks about his healthy. If he signs elsewhere for less, has injuries again, may be screwed. If he stays and can stay healthy he can sign a multi-year contract next offseason. Its the safer route.

Any chance Oden is really like 40 years old and that's why he can't stay healthy?

Am I really suppose to believe this guy is 23 years old? LOL

I'm sure there is at least 1 crazy team out there that believes his upside is too high.

Granted the contract would most likely be for 1 year with a team option, or have an opt out if he isn't playing certain minutes by said time.
