NBA Trade Rumors: The Denver Nuggets are reportedly asking for a first-round pick in exchange for Arron Afflalo
Arron Afflalo was nearly a Charlotte Hornet. The hangup on that happening was the fact that the Denver Nuggets were/are reportedly demanding a first-round pick in exchange for the 29-year-old veteran. The Hornets apparently aren’t willing to offer that much for a rental.
The Nuggets continue to seek a first-round pick from teams interested in guard Arron Afflalo, according to Christopher Dempsey of The Denver Post. Afflalo could become a free agent at the end of this season, as he holds a $7.5MM player option for next year. Dempsey adds that teams are hesitant to surrender a first-rounder for a player that could walk at the end of the season and it is a snag that prevented Afflalo from already being traded to Charlotte.
The Hornets have been in the trade market for offensive wings and a backup point guard, as insurance to the injured Kemba Walker, who is expected to miss six weeks with a torn lateral meniscus (knee).
It seems that demanding a first-round pick, coupled with the fact that Afflalo could walk away from whatever team he’s traded to this summer, is going to make a deal for Afflalo to get done extremely difficult. Similarly, the Nuggets are also reportedly shopping 27-year-old forward Wilson Chandler. Of the teams interested, the Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Clippers appear to be the most serious about the potential of making a deal.
Much like in any deal for Afflalo, the Denver Nuggets are focussed on getting future assets (potentially draft picks) in exchange. Afflalo is averaging 14.9 points and 3.5 rebounds this season, while Chandler is averaging 13.7 points and six rebounds per contest for the Nuggets.
