Nucks acquire Higgins and Lapierre

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks President and General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have acquired left wing Chris Higgins from the Florida Panthers in exchange for defenceman Evan Oberg and a 2013 3rd round pick.

Higgins, 27, has appeared in 48 games for the Panthers this season, recording 23 points (11-12-23) and 10 penalty minutes. The 6'0", 205-pound forward has played in 397 career games, collecting 191 points (103-88-191) and 138 penalty minutes with the Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, Calgary Flames and Florida Panthers. The Smithtown, New York native has made three post-season appearances, playing in 22 playoff games with Montreal and collecting 11 points (6-5-11) and four penalty minutes.

Higgins was selected 14th overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens.

Lapierre, 25, has split the 2010.11 season between Montreal and Anaheim. He has appeared in 21 games for the Ducks this season, recording three points (0-3-3) and nine penalty minutes and collected eight points (5-3-8) and 63 penalty minutes in 38 games with Montreal. The Saint-Leonard, Quebec native has played in 314 career games, recording 83 points (40-43-83) and 293 penalty minutes with Anaheim and Montreal. He has also played in 35 playoff games, collecting seven points (3-4-7) and 20 penalty minutes in three post-season appearances with Montreal. Lapierre was originally drafted 61st overall in the second round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Canadiens.

Sharp, 25, has appeared in 50 games this season with the Anaheim Ducks AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch. The Red Deer, Alberta native has recorded 13 points (6-7-13) and 26 penalty minutes in the 2010.11 season with the Crunch. The 6'1", 180-pound centre has played in eight NHL games with the Anaheim Ducks.

HATE that Lapierre is on Vancouver but Higgins is a sweet pickup

I gotta agree, the nucks addressed all needs with these two trades, a 4th line center and depth.

Nice work by Vancouver, I always liked Lapierre. I'm indifferent to Higgins, but he's a nice addition of depth.

How is Lappiere as a player? I never got to see alot of him, and haven't seen a lot in his Vancouver short time.

He's a real life troll you might say. He's a good agitator, and can chip in offensively sometimes. I think his real showing is his playoff play, he was great during the 2010 playoffs for Montreal.

He's probably actually a bit better on the wing than center, but can play both.

But don't expect him to fight, just troll :p

Sounds like he's a less offensive Alex Burrows, before burrows shut up a bit.
