My Third Edition of a Mock Draft
1. Detroit Lions: Matthew Stafford, Quarterback, UGA
Matthew Stafford is definitely the most talented quarterback in the draft in my eyes and has proven that he has all of the on the field and even off the field intangibles. All teams are stunned by his confidence and I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Lions go against what their better senses and take a quarterback here. But if you are going to do that, Stafford is the right guy. I am biased as a fan of UGA football but he has a complete rocket for an arm and should be able to sling with the best of them in the NBA.
2. St. Louis Rams: Jason Smith, Offensive Tackle, Baylor
The Rams have no choice but to draft by need here, and although they need a lot of things, they desperately require new services at offensive line. Jason Smith played at a smaller system, but the fact that he has been in that small system and still has his name in these talks says a great amount about his talent. Eugene Monroe is also in consideration here but I believe Smth will be the one picked. Crabtree will also look very appealing here, but the Rams could address receiver with a Kenny Britt or Hakeem Nicks type in the early 2nd round.
3. Kansas City Cheifs: Eugene Monroe, Offensive Tackle, Virginia
He is a big physical presence and the Chiefs are in need of work in the trenches. Matt Cassel is a great player and should be able to get some work done if he has time to throw the ball, but this is something the Cheifs need work on. They could go defensively here, but I think they will go with the pick that will make their future Franchise QB happy.
4. Seattle Seahawks: Michael Crabtree, Wide Receiver, Texas A&M
This was a very hard pick, between either Crabtree, or if they decided to go defensively and take Curry, but Crabtree might be too big of a guy to pass up on here. He is an incredible receiver and his talent is known by everyone. Giving Hasselback a receiving crew lead by T.J Houshmanzadeh and Michael Crabtree could revitalize his career and give the Seahawks an explosive offense. They are also in DIRE need of a running back which should be adressed with their 2nd round pick.
5. Cleveland Browns: Aaron Curry, Line Backer, Wake Forest
If Crabtree is here, there is no doubt whatsoever that he will be taken here by the Browns, especially with the rumors of the departure of Braylon Edwards. But Curry also fits a big need and could be a great addition to their defense. Seeing his tape from the combine I think that he is the best phyiscal specimen in this draft, athletically he is out of this world. If Curry is available here, there is no doubt he is taken. If Curry and Crabtree are available, the first 4 teams are on drugs.
Actually to be honest I was looking through DraftCountdown.com and there isn't much I disagree with in the rest of their draft, so let me just post that up:
