No John Tavares? Red Wings and Flyers only have 1 representative each? Briere, Brad Richards, and Zetterberg get the huge snub. Semin, Vanek, Havlat, Suter, and Jack Johnson...also snubbed.

Backes made it, HELL YEA. Guy finally gets what he deserves.

How did Halak miss it though? He was the top western conference vote getter...

They can only pick a certain number of players and every team has to have a player either in the all star game or rookie game so obviously there are going to be players getting snubbed. There's really no point in complaining about it.

Probably has something to do with there being many goalies having a better season than him...

Number of fan votes doesn't matter when it comes to the rest of the players being picked..

Surely, it's the wish of every player to be selected to the All-Star game, year in and year out? Isn't it?

Well no, as a matter of fact, it's not.

If you're wondering why your favorite star wasn't chosen this year, there's a solid chance it's because he preferred it that way - as implied by Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com:

"In the case of (Henrik) Zetterberg, yes my educated guess is that Wings quietly (let) league know not to take him ... same would apply for a few others ..."

"... Keep in mind that some star (players), via their GMs, quietly tell league not to pick them ..."

Via ESPN Insider. That's why Zetterberg wasn't chosen, amongst others.

ESPN - Flames captain Jarome Iginla has withdrawn from the NHL All-Star Game so he can spend time with his ailing grandmother.

Flyers forward Danny Briere will replace Iginla in the lineup.

Iginla, 33, has a goal and two assists in five All-Star games (2002, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2009) and was named the Western Conference captain in 2008.
