The Nets and Pacers have agreed to a four-team trade that would send Courtney Lee to the Rockets and bring Sparta native Troy Murphy to New Jersey. The deal is awaiting league approval and is expected to be announced later Wednesday afternoon.
Chad Ford writes: "the Rockets, Hornets, Pacers and Nets have agreed to the details of the trade and are awaiting a trade call with the league this afternoon to make it official." James Posey would go to the Pacers while Trevor Ariza heads to the Hornets and Darren Collison to the Pacers.
Dave D'Alessandro writes: "They will announce later this afternoon that they have acquired Troy Murphy, the former Delbarton High star who has been languishing in Indiana the past 3½ seasons, according to an agent who has an interest in the five-player swap."
The 6'11" Murphy is one of the game's top three point shooters from the four spot, with a career percentage of 39.4%. With the addition of Murphy, Travis Outlaw, Anthony Morrow, Jordan Farmar and Damion James, the Nets have the potential to become one of the league's top three point shooting teams.
The trade would reduce the Nets cap space by $10 million. Murphy, who has an expiring contract, makes $11.9 million this season while Lee, still on his rookie contract, makes $1.4 million. However, with Murphy, Kris Humphries and Quinton Ross' contracts expiring, the Nets could have more than $20 million in cap space come July.
