Well, right out of the gate, one would assume Dell Demps and the Pelicans would have no chance to land the coveted 24-year old All-Star center. They have no early 2015 first round draft pick to offer like the Los Angeles Lakers or other multiple low cost assets like a number of other NBA teams.
However, the Pelicans are in luck -- the Kings reportedly are not avidly seeking to go down another rebuild route.
The Los Angeles Lakers have had significant interest with Cousins, but their No. 2 overall pick isn't as appealing to the Kings as finding a deal that includes established, veteran players. Ranadive doesn't want to rebuild with a move into a new arena on the horizon, and Karl is chasing Don Nelson's all-time NBA career victories record. Karl's interest isn't in cultivating long-term assets, but rather compiling as many victories as possible in the near future.
Hmm...looking for established, veteran players? The Pelicans have a host of young good talent! Even better, Karl has already sung the praises of a number of them within the past year.
I'm a Holiday guy, but I would turn him loose more. I would open up the court and let him be more of an attack dog. We have Ryan Anderson, and we have to get him involved much more.

I think with Anderson, Davis, Holiday and Asik -- that's four good pieces.
Okay, since every human being knows it's sacrilege to even contemplate putting Anthony Davis on the trade block, how about a package centered around those other three players and any draft picks Demps can muster? Maybe something like the following???
Omer Asik and Alexi Ajinca go over in a sign and trade and Jrue Holiday and Ryan Anderson are welcomed for their very friendly contracts. Slot the trio Karl has given a thumbs up to alongside an alpha-dog like Rudy Gay and a developing talent like Ben McLemore, with Andre Miller, Nik Stauskas, Carl Landry and Ajinca off the bench, and the Kings might have a decent chance at winning their share of games playing an uptempo style of play.
Meanwhile, the Pelicans proceed to blow up the space-time continuum by pairing Davis and Cousins in the frontcourt. With Eric Gordon and Quincy Pondexter roaming the perimeter like the duo did after the most recent All-Star break and Tyreke Evans bullying around NBA point guards, New Orleans would be an imposing beast similar to something straight out of NBA 2K16.
Oh, that's okay if you beat any of the guards/wings off the dribble because either Boogie's girth or Davis' wingspan will stop you dead in your tracks. Darren Erman will make sure of that.
Off the bench, Gentry gets the privilege of working with Darren Collison again and he would have him spearhead a bench unit comprising of Luke Babbitt, Jeff Withey, Dante Cunningham and any other gems Demps likely unearths in the next few months.

Hell yes we are! However, before yesterday, there wasn't even a DeMarcus Cousins lottery. Now, it appears one lucky NBA team is going to win a golden ticket that admits them access to the most wonderful, chocolate-filled fantasy land that any of us can possibly ever imagine.
"Mr. Wonka: "Dont forget what happened to the man who suddenly got everything he wanted."

Why can't the Pelicans be allowed to play the part of Veruca Salt and go take advantage of all the free candy the Oompa-Loompa Kings management group are considering doling out to a bunch of undeserving brats?
