The Nationals have acquired starter Doug Fister from the Tigers, a source tells Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com (via Twitter). The 29-year-old righty is represented by PSI Sports Management.

Fister posted a 3.67 ERA last year for Detroit over 208 2/3 innings. He is projected by MLBTR contributor Matt Swartz to earn $6.9MM this year through arbitration, and is not eligible for free agency until 2016.

There is no word yet on the return going back to the Tigers. As I explained in my breakdown of the Nats' off-season, the rotation was likely the single area where the club could make the greatest impact through a major addition. It appears that GM Mike Rizzo has done just that with today's trade

Scherzer would have gotten the Tigers a better haul. The Nats rotation is looking nice though.

Probably less than what we gave away to get him.

I saw a possible package of Lombardozzi/Ian Krol/Robbie Ray on the twitter.

Looks like that's gonna be the deal. Pathetic.

Gave up Fister for Utility IF/AA Starter/LOOGY. Porcello could have fetched more than that.

I'm not sure about this one, but I trust what Dombrowski and Co. are doing. I don't know a lot about those we received in the deal, but you never know what they can end up becoming. I know about Lombardozzi, but not enough to make a fair assessment.

I really don't understand this deal at all. We essentially gave up Fister for a utility player plus 2 unproven arms.

This better lead to a larger deal/move of some sort. Otherwise it literally doesn't make any sense at all.

I'm really pissed, Fister was my favorite Tiger.

I was expecting a move like this for Porcello, not for Fister. And IIRC, Porcello would've been due a little bit more than Fister with the arbitration.

I think Porcello will be better with an improved defense behind him. I don't understand the trade at all either, giving up a proven starting pitcher for these guys I really have no clue about. The thing going for the Tigers was good starting pitching, I know you can't keep/afford everybody but I don't want them to ruin that. Drew has been good but I don't completely trust him yet, like I did Fister. I don't know.

I have the feeling that's what this is, a move to make a larger move. Unless, they saw something in these guys that we don't know about, which is also possible. Young pitchers that may be unproven, have had recent success in the majors. It could either be to make a larger deal, or to try and find hidden gems.

I don't think he is doing making moves. But I still don't like this deal.
Would've considered it for Porcello, but not Fister.
