The Seattle Mariners will hire Lloyd McClendon as their newest manager, according to a source.

McClendon, 54, has been with the Detroit Tigers since 2006. He has served as their hitting coach since 2007.

He managed the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2001-05 and previously interviewed for the Seattle job in 2010.

He replaces Eric Wedge

No matter who the manager was going to be, it'd be hard for the next guy coming in to do well in Seattle, at least in the near future. They have some nice pieces, and don't have any big expectations from this. I've actually seen a lot o negative reactions, but I think that's not necessarily against McClendon, and more used to having a new manager come in, and it doesn't help anything. It's not a bad situation for McClendon to get into with the low expectations.
