The New Orleans Hornets have entered into the final phase of negotiations with Portland Trail Blazers assistant Monty Williams to fill their coaching vacancy after Boston Celtics assistant coach Tom Thibodeau withdrew from consideration Friday, according to sources close to the situation.

Sources told ESPN.com that Williams' deal could be finished as soon as Saturday after Thibodeau, offered New Orleans' job last week, informed Hornets officials that he plans to pursue opportunities with the Chicago Bulls and New Jersey Nets.

I think it's a good hire for the Hornets. He's a very smart young basketball mind.

Think they would of been better off with a guy with a little more experience, but a youthful coach might be exactly what they need.

:(

Sad to see him go but if he was to go coach any other team other then the Blazers I'd want him to go to the Hornets. I wish him luck in Nola.

Much rather him than that creepy ass Buffalo Bill lookin Thibedeau. I'd say I'm exited but he has no head coaching experience so I don't know what to think of him. Really mad they let Byron go, but maybe Monty will let our rookies get more playing time than Scott did.

I've been trying to get some info on him but all I can get is "he's a good young basketball mind," do you have anything else on him? How is he toward the players? Is he a yeller? Etc...

Don't think he is a yeller but he was well respected.. Probably coached the team more then MB. But he was also tuned out by LeBron and the rest of the team in the playoffs.. But he's a good assistant, good offensive mind. I think he'll get a head coaching position some time in his career.
