Monre Extension Unlikely In Detroit

Detroit's Greg Monroe would also look to be in line for an extension, having established himself as one of the good young big men in the East. He was top 10 last season in double-doubles (37) and was one of the few bright spots for the Pistons the last two seasons.

But league sources indicate an extension for Monroe is highly unlikely. The Pistons are not going to give him anywhere near the max, based on their current roster. Plus, Monroe's agent, David Falk, has little interest in signing an extension for less than that. While discussions are friendly, it's likely the two sides will revisit next summer -- if Monroe is still on the roster.

With Andre Drummond looking like the Pistons' center of the future, and with $56 million invested in Josh Smith -- much more effective as a four -- how much will Detroit put forth for Monroe?

The fuck is giving him the max? Wouldn't be surprised if we flipped him around the deadline.

Every above average big thinks he deserves the max now.

If DeMarcus Cousins gets the max then I don't doubt that Monroe will come close, somewhere.

i thought itd come to this. we cant have three max pkayers(drummond). we cant just let him walk. if we dont agree with something we need to flip him for a three and put smoove back at the four.

id think we could fetch a good package. we dont need to go super young either. id love to go for wilson chandler and a pick or two but thatd be better now than in the future. just gonna have to let the season play out and see how he does.

We will pay him. Think it's why we kept Stuckey and Charlie around. With them coming off the books, we will have plenty to spend on him and then some.

If y'all are set on Josh Smith, then I'd try and move Monroe. Smith may be able to guard threes, but he won't be able to play it offensively. He may still get his 16-18 PPG, but it would be a disaster.

Think we are much more likely to move Smith later in his deal than move Greg. Don't think he is going anywhere.

Also, Smiths deal will be nearly gone by the time we max Dre, no?

I think it's less about three max players, and more about a lineup of Smith, Monroe, and Drummond just wouldn't be very effective.

three max deals for one year is still too crippling.

Trade him to Boston! We really need a center that can play defense lol
