Michael Jordan Fined 100k by the NBA

Bobcats owner Michael Jordan has been fined $100,000 by the NBA for talking publicly about the lockout and Andrew Bogut last month, ESPN’s Chris Broussard reports via Twitter.

Speaking to the (Melbourne) Herald Sun in Australia last month, Jordan said of the NBA’s economic system, “The model we’ve been operating under is broken. We have 22 or 23 teams losing money, (so) I think we have gotta come to some kind of understanding in this partnership that we have to realign.

Michael Jordan reportedly received a hefty fine for comments made to an Australian newspaper.
"I know the owners are not going to move off what we feel is very necessary for us to get a deal in place where we can coexist as partners. We need a lot of financial support throughout the league as well as revenue sharing to keep this business afloat.”

He added of the Bucks' Australian center, "We have stars like Bogut who are entitled to certain type of demands. But for us to be profitable in small markets, we have to be able to win ballgames and build a better basketball team."

It’s not at all surprising that Jordan was fined, as the league has been strictly enforcing its gag order during the lockout. Yahoo! Sports reported in July that two teams, possibly the Timberwolves and Mavericks, were fined for violating the directive. The NBA reportedly even threatened to fine Blazers interim GM Chad Buchanan $1 million for a seemingly innocuous response to a question about the cancellation of the summer league.
