Well that crazy-ass decision to play certainly didn't last long.
After only Week 1 in the new NFL season, Shawne Merriman has notified Chargers Management of his decision to have his knee surgically repaired and miss the season.
After tearing 2 ligaments in his knee, Merriman initially opted to put off injury and play, risking permanent damage.
"Shawne informed me he did not feel right and thought it best to shut it down," General Manager A.J. Smith said in a statement. "The road to winning the AFC West just got more difficult, but not impossible. Nothing is impossible. Shawne is a great player and an inspirational leader. He will be missed. We wish him a successful surgery and a speedy recovery."
Merriman looked very 'sluggish' during the Chargers first game on Sunday and only took the field every other defensive stand.
Merriman told Fox during the post-game that his knee was a little sore but felt good. -AE
