When we posted earlier today an item pointing out that the Redskins were selling via their official online store authentic and replica Donovan McNabb jerseys at steep discounts, we didn’t expect the Redskins to have anything to say about the situation.
Redskins apologize for cutting price of McNabb jerseys
But they did.
Redskins spokesman Tony Wyllie contacted PFT this afternoon with the following statement: “Upon discovering a third-party vendor made a decision to reduce the price of the jerseys, we had it corrected immediately and we apologize for the error.”
Frankly, we’re not sure of the person(s) to whom the Redskins are apologizing. Customers got an unintended bargain, to the extent that any of them decided to buy a well-below-retail McNabb jersey. Thus, the apology apparently would be intended for McNabb, if anyone.
The deeper goal, in our view, was to preserve any remaining trade leverage that the Redskins may have. Then again, even if they hadn’t cut the prices of the jerseys, the Redskins wouldn’t have much leverage at this point.
