Report: Josh McDaniels to meet with Vikings

Josh McDaniels would rather be an assistant coach in Minnesota than a head coach in San Francisco.

ESPN’s Ed Werder reports that McDaniels is scheduled to meet Friday with Vikings coach Leslie Frazier about an undefined assistant coaching job. (Very likely the offensive coordinator position.) McD passed up a chance to interview for the 49ers head coaching job earlier Thursday.

Don’t forget the Vikings still have an offensive coordinator: Brett Favre’s BFF Darrell Bevell. While nothing has been made official about Bevell’s status, this news strongly indicates the Vikings are looking to go in a new direction. The Childress-Favre-Bevell offense appears to be on the way out.

McDaniels seems to have learned from Eric Mangini’s mistake in Cleveland. Jumping into another hazardous head coaching job right after getting fired isn’t necessarily the best way to learn your craft, achieve coaching longevity, and maximize a potential second chance.

It’s very rare to get three chances, so you better make the second one count.

Now we're talking. Singletary rumored to fill the vacant LB Coach position, McDaniels may be our next offensive coordinator. Leslie Frazier is looking to compile one hell of a staff.

Why would San Fran even want him as the head coach?

Josh McDaniels had a ton of power, and was practically the GM in Denver. Making all of the player personnel decisions and coaching the team is a lot of strain, and maybe he would do better as just the coach and letting a GM do his job..

Yeah I agreed with a lot of what he was doing on the field...but I thought it was career suicide to have so much control over your roster, being such an inexperienced NFL coach, much less head coach.

Josh is smart is not following in Mangenie's footsteps. America is the land of second chances but you had better make the most of it, cause we don't like to do thirds. Josh is going to put himself in a much better position of success the next time around.

I also heard rumors today that Singletary is another option in Minny.

Hells yea...

Although new Vikings coach Leslie Frazier has yet to part ways with offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell or special-teams coordinator Brian Murphy, it’s just a matter of time.

Frazier has informed both men that they are free to look for other jobs.

“We’re trying to get some things done,” Frazier told Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN.com. “We’ll make some decisions here real soon.”

In other words, Frazier will soon be hiring a new offensive coordinator, and a new special-teams coordinator.

...

Bevell’s looming departure means that the Vikings will be ditching the West Coast offense. It also means that the chances of yet another Brett Favre return have plummeted to less than zero percent.

Former Broncos coach Josh McDaniels recently interviewed for the position of offensive coordinator, which would put the Vikings in play for Tim Tebow or, perhaps more likely, Kyle Orton.

K.O. to Minny? oh boy.

That;s right, we'll give you Tavaris Jackson and a snowglobe left on Childress' old desk for him.

Wouldn't be much of an upgrade over Brett Favre, but it wouldn't be a horrible pickup by any means. If they do that, no Jake Locker in the first round.
