Miami Heat rookie Mario Chalmers finds himself facing a suspension at the start of the upcoming NBA season because of an incident at the NBA's Rookie Transition Program today in Rye Brook, N.Y.
NBA Vice President Tim Frank confirmed that Chalmers, the point guard drafted in the second round out of Kansas, along with former Kansas teammate Darrell Arthur, a forward now with the Memphis Grizzlies, were asked to leave the program.
While ESPN.com reported that marijuana was found in a hotel room, Frank cited the program's prohibition of having guests in the hotel rooms during the program as the reason for the expulsion. Frank said the league rule is against all guests, not specifically female guests, which was the case in this incident.
The players arrived Tuesday night, with today the first day of the four-day program. Because of the expulsion, Chalmers and Arthur will now be required to attend the program next summer.
