101 ESPN St. Louis' Rick Venturi passed along a "rumor" Friday that second-year WR Mardy Gilyard has asked for a trade.
Venturi joked about Gilyard's supposed trade demand: "Are you kidding me? Nobody knows who the hell he is. What would you give up for him? An old, used kicking ball? And a ticket to a fourth quarter preseason game?" Venturi didn't cite sources, so we'd treat this as no more than an unsubstantiated rumor. Still, the signs continue to point to Gilyard's stay in St. Louis being a short one.

He has a lot of talent. Last year he got to training camp late due to NCAA rules about graduation, and then got hurt.
He never got a chance there. He can be a good returner/slot somewhere in the league.

He was a good WR when he played for Cincinnati, he's got talent, there's no doubt about that. He really wanted the Bengals to draft him, maybe we'll add another WR. Swap him and Ochocinco, I wouldn't care.

First off, it's impossible to ask for a trade right now with the CBA.
Second, they have said they like him, which most likely means they wouldn't release him.
Sooooo, what else is he supposed to do?

Clayton is coming back from injury, they have Amendola, Avery and Burton, and they drafted Greg Salas and Austin Pettis.
There isn't room for all of them, and he's would most likely just get lost in the shuffle there.

He can't play on the outside. He'll never be a #1. He can't play againt bump and run. He can't block. Hes not the fastest guy. Doesn't have great size. Gets injured easily, has character issues. WHAT ELSE DO YOU SEE THATS SKY HIGH?

He is definitely not too small. He's 6'0, 194. A lot of guys who play outside are smaller than him. He's very reminiscent of Santonio Holmes, if he hits his potential. Basically the same size, and they both ran in the 4.5's, yet they play a lot faster, has great footwork on routes and can get deep, with added value in the return game. And where is all this injury stuff coming from? He had one injury. I don't think he even missed a college game. It was one lingering injury all last year. And bump and run, sure he will have trouble, but he didn't face it at all in college. He can learn. Character and desire is the only thing holding him back.

Now, I'm not saying he's going to be great. But he has potential to be very good.

Agents can talk to the teams all day, they're not signed to a team. Just can't be no contract negotiations.

As for the Santonio Holmes thing. I don't see it.

Holmes actually can be a #1/#2. Gilyard is 5'11. He is a me first player, dude thinks hes T.O whenever hes nowhere close. Santonio is faster than Gilyard even tho they ran the same 40. Gilyard has never been fast, he just had agility. Totally different things. Gilyard also hasn't been the best route runner, hes been Meh-Decent, but nothing to write home about.

I just always see the kid being a #4 WR. Maybe a poor Nate Washington at best.
