The Rays did a lot of subtracting this winter, but they have finally gotten around to making some additions -- big ones.

Tampa Bay has agreed to terms with both Johnny Damon and Manny Ramirez, SI.com reports. The deals are pending physicals and could be officially announced Saturday. Damon actually signed his contract Friday, according to Newsday.

Both are signing at bargain rates, especially relative to what they have earned many seasons in their long careers. Damon will make $5.25 million and could add $750,000 more in attendance bonuses. Ramirez will play (the Rays hope) for a mere $2 million.

Yeah, they're bargains but does Manny and Damon make sense? I guess they can platoon the two at DH but honestly I wouldn't want either playing in the field.

I guess they are trying for the two DH option because as Baggs said. Neither are capable of being in the field anymore. DH is all they could do, and they both are productive. Damon more than Manny. I feel like they will use Damon more often. As long as things check out with the physicals, it'll be a Manny, Damon reuniting! I wonder who they will vow to play more when they play against New York and Boston. Probably Damon more in the Yankee games, and split appearances between the Boston games.

Damon is going to be playing LF. Honestly, he's not that bad in LF. He's still got some decent speed so he's not just sitting there like a lump on a log. He can't throw for shit but it's not all that important.

This is fucking genius in so many ways. People are all about the Rays being dead in the water again...but whether or not they end up back in the AL East cellar, they're making headlines by default. Johnny Damon and Manny Ramirez, even though both are washed up, will sell the Rays more tickets this season...then when they were in the hunt for the World Series.

Love this for Tampa. They really have nothing to lose and all the marketing to gain.

Damon and Manny on a 3rd/4th/5th place team aren't going to sell tickets if a 1st place team can't.

Why wouldn't it? I know personally I would want to see Manny play, maybe not Damon though, but Manny for sure.

They won the division last season and couldn't even sell tickets. I doubt fans are going to come out to see Manny and Damon play, maybe for their debuts, but it's highly unlikely it will carry over the whole season, not to mention you're a Red Sox fan and they were great players for the Sox.

I'd love to see the Rays take the division, again but it's going to be real, real tough. I like these additions though, but Damon is just too off and on - Inconsistent.

They honestly don't have a shot at the division, the Red Sox pretty much locked it up.

manny was putting up really really good numbers last year with the dodgers, he just kept getting hurt
once they got into interleague and he DH'd, he was a different player again, then he got hurt and they let him get claimed

he's going to have a bounce back year. unless they keep on losing, then we'll see. but if he behaves and puts up numbers, rays will probably trade him
