From ESPN InsiderNot only is Peyton Manning on the verge of becoming a free agent -- assuming the Indianapolis Colts cut him before his roster bonus is due March 8 -- but so, too, is tag-team partner Reggie Wayne, who will become an unrestricted free agent March 13. Could they leave Indy and join a new team as a combo package?
Sports Illustrated's Peter King reported Tuesday that at least two potential suitors would be willing to bring both of them along as free agents in order to lure Manning to their team. King also cited a source who said that Manning would love to keep Wayne at his side if he goes to a new team in 2012. King also was told that Wayne harbors the same sentiment.
It would make a lot of sense for both Manning and Wayne to stick together, considering the depth of understanding the two of them have after spending the past decade as a pair. Wherever they go, they'll be in a new system and will have a lot to process in order to be successful. Why not keep the most important part -- quarterback to No. 1 WR -- intact?
One place Manning won't be going is San Diego, but ESPN AFC West blogger Bill Williamson could see Wayne landing there on his own:
