I loved the move for the Rangers 2 months ago and despite his health issues, I still like the move now. The Rangers are in serious need of a righty power stroke and Lowell continues to prove that when healthy, he can still consistently swing for the fences. With so much hype surrounding the Mariners' off-season and the misguided perception that the Angels won't be as good...now is the time for the Rangers to continue to capitalize on the AL West crown.A source tells Jim Reeves of ESPNDallas.com that the Rangers "keep coming back" to the possibility of trading for Red Sox third baseman Mike Lowell.
The Rangers continue to look for a right-handed hitter to back up first base and third base, so Lowell couldn't be a better match on paper. Of course, they nearly traded for the veteran in December until the team raised questions about his injured thumb and surgically-repaired hip. Lowell is currently sidelined with a bum left knee, so the they will likely wait to see him back on the field before revisiting the possibility.

One way or the other, Mike Lowell doesn't finish the season on the Red Sox...unless he spends most of the season on the DL, preventing a trade.
