Kevin Love will reportedly sign a four-year max extension with the Timberwolves on Wednesday.
Give David Kahn some credit here, as keeping Love for the next four years is a huge deal, along with the emergence of Ricky Rubio. The deal is said to be for four years and $62 million, and it will be interesting to see if Love's play is affected at all by the signing. Our guess is he'll be the same stud he's been all season. It's refreshing to see a star not bolt town, though it's always been the second contract in which they bolt.

Well, it is impossible to bolt when you're a RFA. Your original team needs to not want you.

So Kevin Love was willing to commit for 5 years, and the Wolves ended up giving him a 4 year deal with an opt out after 3.

The Minnesota Timberwolves, folks.

Kevin Love and the Wolves have agreed to a four-year deal worth more than $60 million, according to sources.

Sources close to the process told ESPN.com that Love was determined to have the ability to opt out and become an unrestricted free agent after three seasons.

How in the heck do you figure that? He loves Minnesota, he just wants to make sure the Wolves will bring in guys to build around him. I'm happy thats what we did, if we dont try and build around him and bring in good talent, than i hope he does walk. That's the organization's fault if he doesn't re-up after this, because he does truly like it here, just wants to win.

Sounds a lot like CP3 in NOLA.

Maybe so. But we are building talent around him. We have an up and coming PG in Rubio that he loves to play with, the most recent #2 overall pick in Derrick Williams, and a great coach that Kevin Love wanted us to get in Adelman. This place will also be more attractive for FA with those pieces, and the reason we didn't give Kevin Love that max 5 year deal had to do with having flexibility to sign others.

Derrick Williams will have to be traded, he can't play SF.

Also, giving him an extra year would not have restricted the Wolves flexibility and they aren't going to be big players in free agency anyway.

you summed up why i said the wolves pretty might said see ya after three years. this is ALL on them to build a team around him that can compete long term. right now its pretty much he and rubio and some decent role players. dwill, as good as he is has no real position; much like jeff green. hed be better off getting dealt for better starting talent. they have two years to show they are committed to this before he decides he'll bolt in the third. and the way they do business, you might as well assume hes going to leave. love for that city or not. no one wants to sit on a bad team for their whole career.

Or the Wolves could start Love at the 5. It's not like 4 versus 5 really means anything. Also, it'd be damn nice to see Darko on the bench. He has no fire.

You guys would get eaten alive in the post with Love and Williams on the court. They're not exactly world-beaters on defense and that would be a really small front-court.
