The Nets have yet to offer a contract extension to Brook Lopez and are unlikely to do so before the Jan. 25 extension deadline for players drafted in 2008, according to general manager Billy King.

"I'm sure I'll have a conversation with his agent [Arn Tellem]," King told reporters before Wednesday night's game against the Warriors. "But I don't know if we'll do anything with him at this point. I think you just have to wait. They may throw a number at you that makes sense."

Lopez, who remains out with a fractured foot, is in the last year of his rookie contract and will make roughly $3.1 million this season.

Brook Lopez was asked about general manager Billy King's announcement that he likely won't offer him a contract extension by the Jan. 25 deadline, meaning Lopez will probably become a restricted free agent this summer.

"I didn’t even know there was a deadline for contracts, honestly," Lopez said. "I knew there was a trade deadline."

That, of course, is March 15, and with the Nets still hoping to acquire Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard, Lopez is well aware he could be traded away from the Nets by the deadline.

"I don’t know. I’d like to be (with the Nets), but you know — a lot of uncertainties," he said. "I don’t know."

I can't see them letting him walk away for nothing.

Maybe if he learned the defend/rebound the Nets wouldn't trade for Dwight lol.

They won't offer him an extension because he's hurt, it's that simple.

I mean they're not going to give him an extension NOW because of that, doesn't mean they won't in the future.

Never a good investment to put a lot of money towards damaged goods. If there are complications with the injury he could never be the same player again.

If Brook shows that he's healthy and his usual self when he gets back from injury and Dwight isn't going to Jersey, he'll get his extension in the off-season, barring complications with the negotiations.

some injuries don't heal right and becomes a lingering problem for years. Other times there's no issue.

And people always say Brook is too inconsistent anyway, so extending him now would be a bonehead move.

And They're trying to get Dwight Howard, so signing Lopez to an extension now wouldn't make a lot of sense either.
