The Detroit Pistons and Phoenix Suns made a minor trade Wednesday, swapping forwards Tony Mitchell and Anthony Tolliver, the Suns announced.
The Suns inked Tolliver this summer to a two-year, $6-million deal to serve as a backup floor-stretching big. However, with the continued emergence of forward Markieff Morris, Tolliver struggled to find playing time. He averaged 3.3 points and 1.8 rebounds in 11.3 minutes.
Mitchell, the 37th pick in 2013, played just 79 minutes for the Pistons in 2013-14. He has yet to make an appearance this season.
The deal nets the Pistons a much-needed floor stretching big in Tolliver, while the Suns carve out cap space by dumping Tolliver's deal. A report from Paul Coro of AZ Central notes that the Suns expect to waive Mitchell's unguaranteed deal, bringing their cap space up to $6.1 million.
