Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford continues to throw the ball without experiencing pain in his surgically repaired right shoulder.

"Feelin good after throwing a lot yesterday," Stafford tweeted Saturday.

Stafford tweeted a similar message Thursday after telling reporters Tuesday at University of Georgia's pro day -- he attended the school before going No. 1 overall in the 2009 NFL Draft -- that he is recovering well and rehabilitating in Birmingham, Ala., with therapists from Dr. James Andrews' office. Andrews performed the surgery on Stafford's right shoulder in January.

The Lions can receive reports on Stafford's progress, but they aren't permitting to make contact with him during the lockout.

"There's nothing he's had injury-wise his first two years that is going to affect him going forward," Lions coach Jim Schwartz told the team's official site Tuesday. "He knows that, we all know that. We (just) need to keep him on the field."

Once healthy, and if the lockout remains in effect, Stafford said he would go to where wide receiver and Lions teammate Calvin Johnson is or meet wherever they can to work out in preparation for the 2011 season.

Stafford played in just three games last season after playing in 10 as a rookie.

Good sign for all the Lions fans here. But doesnt mean anything unless he can stay healthy during the season.

This is obviously amazing news for the Lions franchise. They need Matty Stafford back and healthy ASAP, he hasn't shown he can stay healthy yet, but he's young and has time to prove it.

I just do not believe he can stay healthy long enough to really make a difference.

Lol, already? I understand that he's been injury prone, but he's only been in the league two years. Giving up on him in his third NFL season would be stupid.

Lol. Thank goodness you aren't the GM of the Lions man! :p

You can't give up on a kid after two seasons, when he was the first overall selection. And it just won't happen. Look at Alex Smith in San Fran.

Yeah, injuries are the problem with Stafford.
His talent is clearly there.

I won't be giving up on him till that contract is gone.

Damn right, are you implying im a homer? I'm not the one who thinks every FA will sign with their team and we're bound for playoffs everyyear. I'm a realist.

Yes I am implying you are a homer, because you are a homer.
Simple as that for your simple ass.

Good to hear, but time will tell if it's really a step in the right direction.
