With Monday's deadline to utilize the franchise tag looming, Lions DE Cliff Avril became the latest player restricted from reaching unfettered free agency.

Unless Detroit gets a long-term deal done with Avril, he will be owed roughly $10.6 million in 2012. But after he recorded a career-best 11 sacks in 2011, it's no surprise the Lions want to keep one of the members of their vaunted defensive line -- it includes DTs Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley and DE Kyle Vanden Bosch -- a group of pass rushers who prevent the team from relying on blitzes to disrupt quarterbacks.

Avril, whose sack total has gone up every year since he was taken out of Purdue in the third round of the 2008 draft, also forced six fumbles from his left end position last season.
Oh well, was bound to happen.

i heard people can still offer contracts for him and we can match or get 2 first round picks from the team that wants him.

Which means no one in their right mind is going to offer him a contract.
