Detroit Free Press - The Lions could be close to a deal with free agent running back Rudi Johnson after he met with the team on Sunday afternoon, according to Detroit Free Press.

A Lions spokesman confirmed that Johnson, released by the Bengals on Saturday, was set to meet with coaches Sunday night.

I thought this was coming when I heard he was released. That's a really nice sign IMO.

I don't know about this.. Kevin Smith has looked good and they already have Tatum Bell as a change of pace- back.

to me, another blunder by Millen

Tatum Bell isn't that good though. Rudi would be our #2 back if we signed him. Then we have this kid named Marcus Thomas at #3 who is supposed to be a great runner, and a lock for #3. So Tatum would be knocked off the depth charts, maybe used for trade bait. Or if Rudi or Kevin is hurt he can come in and help us out. I think it's a good sign, Rudi is a good runner.

Rudi would be called the number one but they would split time, which would be the best thing for Kevin Smith.

From what I read he would be the #2 and Smith would be the #1 still getting most of the carries.
