Sources has told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that Marv Levy will be stepping down as general manager of the Buffalo Bills. Levy met with 82-year old owner Ralph Wilson Jr. earlier this week and the two came to a mutual decision.

Bills spokesperson Scott Berchtold said that he was not aware of Levy's status, however a source inside the organization told the Associated Press that a decision would be made concerning Levy's future with the team following the draft in April.

Levy has an option to remain with the team as a consultant. A formal announcement is expected later this week. Levy, an NFL Hall of Famer, was talked out of retirement and put into the front office prior to the 2006 season, replacing Tom Donahoe. -AE

Well, can't say this is too shocking. The Bills, for the most part, have been under performing. What is a bit shocking is, why now, when the Bills clearly have shown they have a good young team this season. Why not wait another season and see if this year's bright performances were flukes or the real deal?

The Bills actually overachieved this season considering the 15 players that put onto the IR throughout the season. This team is just about out of the mess that Tom Donahoe's regime put them in and finally they have something to look forward to in the future of Trent Edwards, Marshawn Lynch, and Lee Evans.

I just think Levy's age makes it unlikely that he can be a part of the future of this team and I think he realizes that. I just wonder if this news is bad news for Dick Jauron. Typically, a new GM leads to a new head coach more times than not.
