So LeBron James has sat out half of last night's game versus Detroit b/c of a....sprained index finger!?! Are you serious? I am sorry but this thread is strictly a rant, courtesy of yours truly. I just cannot get over exactly how "soft" and how "primadonna" these athletes are today. Now I have seen MLB Pitchers hit the DL due to everything from sleeping the wrong way to cracked fingernails...and I have groaned. This index finger sprain is just as bad.
Is LeBron not the leader of this team? What kind of example is he setting? I mean it's a sprained finger, we've all had 'em! Did it keep any of you out of work or practice? Hell, in Football you sprain several fingers at least once a week. Don't give me any of this: "sometimes a sprain is worse than a break"-nonsense either. I have experienced both & I think most would agree that 'broken' hurts way more than 'sprained.'
Get a grip LeBron and suck it up. If you actually stepped onto the court during the regular season & played with any amount on intensity and adrenaline, your little finger sprain wouldn't of even struck you until the game was over and it swelled up. Just more proof of how useless the NBA regular season really is if Player's are going to see Specialist because of sprained fingers. Never, ever, in any sport, would I let a sprain keep me out of a game that I love to play. Nor would a finger sprain sit me down and in the process, let my team down.
Think of all the Players that have played any major sport in the past. Think of all the major injuries that some of those players have dealt with. Some of the game's greatest athletes playing with broken bones. Hell, Jaromir Jagr recently took a puck in the face and was literally spitting his front teeth out onto the ice. He didn't sit. He picked up those teeth, stayed in the game, and ended up scoring the winning goal that night. Must of hurt like hell but he didn't quit.
What a shame...you would of thought that those "Finger Bands" would prevent such sprains. Maybe the good folks over at the "Shooting Sleeve" factory can think up something to aid players such as LeBron, who have trouble with sprained fingers in Basketball.
Get a pain tolerance LeBron. -AE
