So LeBron James has sat out half of last night's game versus Detroit b/c of a....sprained index finger!?! Are you serious? I am sorry but this thread is strictly a rant, courtesy of yours truly. I just cannot get over exactly how "soft" and how "primadonna" these athletes are today. Now I have seen MLB Pitchers hit the DL due to everything from sleeping the wrong way to cracked fingernails...and I have groaned. This index finger sprain is just as bad.

Is LeBron not the leader of this team? What kind of example is he setting? I mean it's a sprained finger, we've all had 'em! Did it keep any of you out of work or practice? Hell, in Football you sprain several fingers at least once a week. Don't give me any of this: "sometimes a sprain is worse than a break"-nonsense either. I have experienced both & I think most would agree that 'broken' hurts way more than 'sprained.'

Get a grip LeBron and suck it up. If you actually stepped onto the court during the regular season & played with any amount on intensity and adrenaline, your little finger sprain wouldn't of even struck you until the game was over and it swelled up. Just more proof of how useless the NBA regular season really is if Player's are going to see Specialist because of sprained fingers. Never, ever, in any sport, would I let a sprain keep me out of a game that I love to play. Nor would a finger sprain sit me down and in the process, let my team down.

Think of all the Players that have played any major sport in the past. Think of all the major injuries that some of those players have dealt with. Some of the game's greatest athletes playing with broken bones. Hell, Jaromir Jagr recently took a puck in the face and was literally spitting his front teeth out onto the ice. He didn't sit. He picked up those teeth, stayed in the game, and ended up scoring the winning goal that night. Must of hurt like hell but he didn't quit.

What a shame...you would of thought that those "Finger Bands" would prevent such sprains. Maybe the good folks over at the "Shooting Sleeve" factory can think up something to aid players such as LeBron, who have trouble with sprained fingers in Basketball.

Get a pain tolerance LeBron. -AE

Here here AE....they mix up booboos and injuries far too often. I mean Matt Barnes was playing with a dislocated finger the other night and LeBron can't play with a little sprain finger. I would just tape it to the one next to and get out and play as hard as I can.

As a former athlete, this is just sad. I'm not going to sit here and tell all the injuries I played through, but let me jsut say that if anyone of us sat out with a sprained finger we wouldn't think of them the same way ever again.

There's a difference between You & I when compared to LeBron James. LeBron's already made his money, You & I dont get paid to play. Once again, these NBA players don't really play the way they should until the Post-season runs begin.

Yea, I just play for fun, if I get cut or lose a contact, I just shrug it off and keep going.

I agree that he probably could of played with it, but look at it a different way. First of all, there's a lot of basketball to be played, so through out the season, players need time to rest and if they're gonna take a game off, best do it when they've got some small injury. This is still not a great excuse, but it has some logic behind it.

My main excuse I guess would be if it's on his shooting hand, that would definately change his game. Something as small as a sprained shooting finger can really put of a basketball player's game, and if that's the case, it's better to have somebody out there at full throttle who's not as good then to have half a LeBron.

I don't know, half a LeBron is probably still one of their best players on the team.

I remember one time I jammed my right flipper finger way bad it swelled up I couldn't bend it at all it turned all green and stuff and I forgot to tape it to my other finger, so I just put my hand in that star trek shape where the index and flipper are together, and I shot like that, and I was making a good portion of my shots.
