The hits just keep coming for the struggling New York Knicks.

Former Chicago Bulls forward Dennis Rodman weighed in on the team's poor play Tuesday, questioning whether Carmelo Anthony was the right fit for the Knicks and wondering if first-year coach Derek Fisher is the right candidate for the job.

"If I know Phil [Jackson, Knicks team president], he just feels like [crap] right now," Rodman told reporters at a promotional event in Manhattan. "I think he just feels like, 'Wow, I thought I came here to do a great job and revitalize the city of New York.' He didn't expect this.

"He didn't expect this. I saw him a couple of times on TV when I was in L.A., and I'm like, I know what you feel like, Phil. You came to be the savior and all of a sudden it's like, ugh. Then you went and got Derek Fisher. Really, is he coaching? Is Derek Fisher coaching? I don't get it. I don't know what's up with that team, man. You've got Carmelo and after that who else do you got?

"They're not running the triangle. Derek Fisher's not really coaching. I know Phil is trying to throw his input in the background, but who expected this from Phil? They expected him, we're going to give you $15 million a year for the next six years and this team is -- wow -- they might not even make the playoffs."

The Knicks, who lost Tuesday night to the New Orleans Pelicans, were 4-18 entering the game. That was the worst record through 22 games in the franchise's 69-year history. Players and coaches have said it will take some time for the team to learn the new triangle offense.

But Rodman, who won three titles while playing for Jackson in Chicago, said the offense was easy to master.

"I learned that in probably 15 minutes when I was in Chicago," Rodman said. "It's not that difficult. It's a triangle.

"Everybody has an opportunity to touch the ball and shoot it. It seems like it goes back to Carmelo Anthony and then everything stops. What are you going to do?"

Rodman also wondered whether other free agents will want to join Anthony in New York. The Knicks are expected to have significant cap space this summer and hope to be able to woo top free agents.

"How are you going to play with a superstar like Carmelo Anthony when he wants to shoot the ball all the time and everybody else has to play their role?" Rodman said. "How are you going to do that? Phil Jackson did that with Michael Jordan at the beginning and guess what happened. He put a team around Michael Jordan and everybody fit right in.

"Everyone knew who the boss was -- that was him, Michael Jordan. Everybody knew who Kobe [Bryant] was. Kobe and Shaq [Shaquille O'Neal], they played their roles. Who is the man here in New York besides Carmelo? Nobody wants to play together with Carmelo, it seems like."

We have Stoudemire. I mean for what he can do now a days, has been doing a great job. And Instead of picking fights, he has called out the team. But besides those two? JR Brick? Shumpert IS SHIT. Calderon? The fuck? No body...

Be patient my young friend, for Okafor and Towns are around the corner.

I REALLY don't want to come off and sound like a homer, but Boston would be a really good place for Melo.

Rondo is a perfect guy to set up Melo, and Olynyk+Bradley's outside game would help as well. And Sully has a solid inside game.

We still wouldn't win much with him though, so it wouldn't be worth it for him

Look at Phil Jackson's coaching tree.  Then look at Greg Popovich's coaching tree.

I don't know much about the triangle, but I know in today's NBA you need smart players at every position who make the right decision with the ball mostly.  I've never understood his insistence on the triangle.  You can implement and offence that emphasizes the same principles without the rigid aspects of the triangle.

Well he's trying to rebuild the team to have players who can execute the triangle.

And at the same time he's insisting this current group of players run the triangle because certain players like Melo and Hardaway Jr are "expected" to be here for a long time and not be traded away, so they need to learn the offense.

I think you've got it backwards.  I'm almost positive New York's endgame is top 5 pick+sign Rondo.  Doesn't make sense for any team besides NY to max Rondo (he's not a max player).  I think if you have Rondo/Melo, you have to get rid of the triangle.  If Knicks didn't take on Jose's contract, they could be a player this summer and nab a guy like Millsap too.  That trade made no sense from the get go for me.

You add Rondo, you have a top 5 pick.  You have Melo who is a top 20 player.  Knicks could at least be interesting next year if they play their cards right this summer.  Will be interesting and Phil's first true test.

For the record, if I am Boston, I trade Rondo to any team that offers me an EXP and a first round pick.  I would do the same with Green.  No clue what they're doing.  Get Marcus Smart on the court and see what you have with him when he is healthy.

What is their endgame by keeping all of these bit pieces.

Rondo will be gone before ASW, if not within the next week. Almost every player can be traded by the 16th since they signed contracts (like Monroe and his QO, Carmelo and his extension, etc)

He'll be moved to a team trying to compete. But this is Danny Ainge; he won't sell if he doesn't get the value he deems respectable

Deals I can see happening:

PG R.Rondo to Dallas for PF B.Wright, PG D.Harris, PG R.Felton, two future 1st round picks
PG R.Rondo, C V.Faverani to Sacramento for PF C.Landry, SF D.Williams, SG N.Stauskas, future 1st round pick
PG R.Rondo, C V.Faverani to Oklahoma City for C K.Perkins, C S.Adams, SF P.Jones III, future 1st round pick

I think Sacramento makes the most sense in terms of a team desperate to make the playoffs, and having pieces to get it done.  It has to be ASAP.  Even with the deal, I doubt they make it over OKC.

Dallas is interesting.  I think if they could swing a deal of EXP and picks for him, while keeping Wright, they should give it a shot.  My only concern would be that the offence would have to be massively overhauled to accommodate a guy who needs the ball in order to have any level of effectiveness.  Luckily they have one of the best coaches in the NBA, so if anyone could do it, it'd be them.  Personnel-wise, that would make Dallas very interesting.  Just curious about the fit.
