LAS VEGAS -- Former NFL running back Larry Johnson was arrested early Friday at a posh Las Vegas Strip resort on a felony domestic violence-strangulation charge involving a woman who told police she was his ex-girlfriend.

Larry Alphonso Johnson Jr., 32, was being held on $15,000 bail at Clark County jail pending an initial court appearance on the charge that could carry a penalty of at least two years in state prison if he is convicted.

Police said Johnson could be released from jail 12 hours after his arrest about 4:30 a.m. at the Bellagio resort.
A 32-year-old woman from Maryland alleged that Johnson choked her during an argument in his room until she became unconscious, and she awoke in her underwear in the hallway, a police report states.

It was not clear if she was hospitalized or received medical treatment.
Yvette Monet, a spokeswoman for Bellagio resort owner MGM Resorts International, cited guest privacy policies and declined comment.

It wasn't immediately clear if Johnson had a lawyer.

Johnson, who lives in North Bay Village, Fla., starred for the Kansas City Chiefs after being drafted out of Penn State in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He was chosen All-Pro and Chiefs MVP in 2005 and 2006, and signed a contract in 2007 that guaranteed a team-record $19 million. But he was plagued by injuries and inconsistency in the years that followed.

Johnson played for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2009 and the Washington Redskins in 2010 before briefly playing for the Miami Dolphins in 2011.

Johnson served what amounted to a one-game suspension in 2009 for using an anti-gay slur and had several scrapes with the law over the years.

Johnson was sentenced in March 2009 to two years of probation with a chance to have his record cleared for good behavior after pleading guilty to reduced disturbing the peace charges in separate incidents involving two women at two Kansas City nightclubs.

In 2003, Johnson was charged with aggravated assault and misdemeanor battery after being accused of brandishing a gun during an argument with a former girlfriend. The charges were dropped after he completed a domestic violence diversion program.
I don't understand what's so hard about not putting your hands on a woman. As mentioned, this isn't his first time he's had trouble with the law.

I hate when athletes get in trouble with the law. I wonder if that's why he doesn't have a team, other than the injuries and inonsistency.

I wouldn't doubt if that factored into it. He has the history of legal issues, and no team would like to have someone on their team that has troubles off the field. Yeah, sometimes they take the chances on guys, and it can work out. He's also 32, which is near the end of RB's careers usually.

He also reportedly threatened a security guard, that responded to the reports of what happened. He told the guy "I'll rip your fucking vocal cards out." Along with that he was bragging about getting released from charges "last time"

So yeah, he has some serious problems.

I don't know if it's just me or when it comes to all 4 professional sports, football players tend to get into the most trouble.
