The Los Angeles Lakers are shoring up the potential loss of forward Josh Powell to the Atlanta Hawks by agreeing to terms with veteran big man Theo Ratliff on a one-year deal for the veterans' minimum of $1.35 million, according to a league source.

The Lakers' signing of Ratliff would have no effect on their pursuit of Orlando small forward Matt Barnes, whom they would sign with the remaining $1.8 million of their mid-level exception. Los Angeles signed Clippers free agent guard Steve Blake to a four-year, $16 million deal earlier this month and used about $4 million of the $5.8 million mid-level to do so. Yahoo! Sports reported Wednesday that Barnes has whittled the list of five teams trying to sign him down to the Lakers and Cavaliers. A league source said the Cavaliers are offering a multi-year deal that averages a little more than $3 million per season, while all the Lakers can offer is the $1.8 million
I've always loved Big Theo. Cool

more on Barnes before the hate brigade comes in here talking about a paycut
Yahoo! Sports: Unless the Cleveland Cavaliers raise their current multiyear offer to Matt Barnes on Thursday, the free-agent forward plans to sign a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The Cavaliers are offering as much as a three-year deal that starts around $3.5 million a season, but Barnes wants more money if he’s going to sign with a non-championship contender, sources said. Barnes would take a $1.7 million deal to join the Lakers.

Its straight. He'll be good in relief coming off the bench. I'm not a Theo fan though

Barnes would be straight

Doesn't Theo have real bad knees along with being like 40?

Matt Barnes agreed to a two year deal in LA.

solid for sure

Pau > Bosh
Miami's PG's suck ass
Kobe can check Wade
Artest can check LeImNotStoppingTilIBringClevelandATitle
Barnes for sure can guard Miller and Wade, he's at least pesky on LeBron

and Odom and UD is ok. offensively, UD has no shot. and defensively for Odom, Haslem wont touch the ball anyways
oh and Bynum vs Z and Juwan and Anthony lol
:D

Barnes was not pesky at all, LeBron averaged 33 ppg against Orlando last year.

Barnes can't do anything lol

I LOL at the fact every Lakers related thread, or in fact ANY thread in general, turns into why the Lakers are still the best and are going to win the title again.

So do Laker fans consider this Barnes signing good? They said he sucked last year.
