Robin Lopez last summer signed a $54M/4 deal on a $70M cap. Mozgov signs a $64M/4 deal on a $94.4M cap.

It's not as bad of a deal as one would think

Those Lopez and Asik deals don't look so bad now, huh?

Asik's is still pretty terrible, considering he's even less of a player than Moz

There's nothing terrible about paying Omer Asik 10% of the cap. It's a good contract now, gonna be a bargain by this time next year.

Asik hasn't progressed at all since he was in Chicago.  You look at his numbers across the board, and he's almost exactly the same player he was five years ago.  Except now he may be slightly worse.

To be fair, Asik was progressing under McHale's tutelage.

This Moz deal is mostly bad because he wasn't the same player this year after an injury.

Not a good deal for the Lakers. Happy Mozgov got some money after going from a focal point to a complete bench option this past season, but damn... What are the Lakers doing lmao? I could see if they were a few pieces away, but this just makes no sense for them.

From what I understand, the only punishment that the league hands out to teams that fail to reach the cap floor is forcing them to distribute the difference between their salary and the cap floor to their current players.  Why wouldn't teams just do that instead of locking themselves into shitty deals like this one for four years?

I don't think that's the only punishment tbh. I believe they would also get fined significantly and could receive a future cap penalty as well

Otherwise half the teams wouldn't bother reaching the floor

Almost certain they just divide between players on the team.
