The Los Angeles Lakers have had internal discussions for several months about acquiring Josh Smith from the Atlanta Hawks, according to sources.

Sources say, however, that the Hawks have no interest in trading Smith for a packagecentered around Pau Gasol.

Smith is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.

For the Lakers, trading Gasol for Smith would allow the team to get younger and more athletic. Moreover, Smith is one of Dwight Howard'sclosestfriendsin theNBA.
too bad it wont happen. the team would be able to run and gun like no other and the defense would be scary. considering how good of friends dwight and josh are, i think itd be enough to say dwight would stay.

Short term the Lakers would be worse, significantly, at least in my opinion but long term it's a no brainer. Although they might just let him expire and hold onto their cap for free agency.

The Hawks shouldn't have any interest in that.

i love pau, and he might do great with d'antoni

but they really ought to trade him for pieces. gonna need to

i saw something on twitter about a made up trade
Bargs/Calderon for Pau/Blake

gives the lakers 2 snipers including a PF
and lets Toronto get Pau to mentor Valanciunas while losing his contract sooner than Bargs. also dumps calderon

would love that trade

Add TRoss to that deal and I like it for LA... Gives them a potential young scorer to replace Mamba in 2 years

id think that'd be too much for toronto but good enough for la. i still dont think ross would play much but being behind kobe and nash would be such a help.

Outside of getting a little younger, why are the Lakers so desperate to move Gasol?

I didn't know Gasol was already 32 lol. I guess I can see why now. I thought he was like 30.

That roster has 7 guys that are 30 or older.

Considering the system they're going to start running, and their defensive struggles, how does this trade not make this team immediately better?

Am I the only person here who thinks Josh Smith is a better overall player than Pau Gasol?

the hell are you talking about? i think most people would pull the trigger on that trade from the Lakers' side.
it clearly says the Hawks are not interested.

It makes the Lakers worse

:kobe:

Their system includes everyone having the green light, which is certainly not going to stop Smith from taking idiotic shots. I don't like the idea of having two starting big men who can't shoot.

I was referring to the people who seem to think the Lakers don't get better, not whether or not the Lakers would pull the trigger.
