Sunday, the Los Angeles Lakers signed Chinese point guard Sun Yue to a 2-year contract.
Known as "Chinese Magic" because of his play-making ability, Yue's first competition came against new teammate Kobe Bryant during the United States' "Olympic romp" of China on Sunday in Beijing. The Lakers drafted Yue in the 2nd round of the 2007.
Yue spent the 2007 season playing with Beijing club, Aoshen and the Chinese National Team, in both Olympic preparation and in the 2007 Las Vegas Summer League.
Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said in June that he would make it a priority to sign Sun and bring him to training camp. In Yue the Lakers get a 6-foot-9, 212-pound player who has predominantly played point guard throughout his career, but should be utilized in other areas of the court in LA. -AE
