A season that began with guard Kyle Lowry playing at an All-Star level will end with him getting ready for off-season surgery.

Lowry said Sunday he would not be able to play in the Rockets final regular-season games because of a sports hernia and the groin injury that sent him to the hospital when a bacterial infection was discovered March 8.

He missed a month with the infection, spending the first week in the hospital. He has struggled since.

“I’m shutting it down,” Lowry said. “With the injuries, I won’t be playing again this year. With the groin and the sports hernia, it’s a lot to deal with. I made a decision to shut it down.”

His situation is making it more and more tempting for Daryl Morey to ship him and sign Dragic. While I don't like the idea of one of them not in a Rockets uniform next year, I especially don't like the idea of Lowry being gone. He's got guts and is willing to take big shots, whereas there are games when Dragic looks scared shitless with 5 minutes left and defers to his significantly less talented teammates. I want Dragic back as starting PG, but I would love to see Lowry back as well starting at the 2. Sign Lee to a modest contract and let him come off the bench as a scorer and defender. Ship Kevin Martin the hell out of Houston. I'd also like to see Alexander put his foot down on McHale not playing Morris and tell him Marcus gets at least 20 minutes a game next season. The Rockets should trade Patterson in order to assure Morris' minutes. McHale seems to think Patrick Patterson belongs on an NBA floor when he doesn't.

Potentially trade Patterson+Scola+Martin (if he's still under contract) for a proven scorer, get this team somebody to turn to in big moments.
