he Pittsburgh Penguins re-signed forward Chris Kunitz to a two-year contract extension worth $7.45 million on Thursday. Kunitz's new contract begins in 2012-13 and will carry a $3.725 million average annual value. It's an identical cap hit to Kunitz's current contract, a four-year deal that started with the 2008-09 season.

Kunitz, 32, has 1 assist through four games this season. He was second on the Penguins last season with 23 goals and third behind Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang with 48 points. He has 99 points in 140 regular-season games with the Penguins, and helped the team win the Stanley Cup in 2009.

Kunitz has 26 points in 43 playoff games as a Penguin.
