After receiving a technical foul during Tuesday's game, Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant stormed back to the bench and appeared to direct a homophobic slur toward referee Bennie Adams.

Bryant's reaction was caught on camera on TNT's national telecast of the key Western Conference battle with the San Antonio Spurs. He hit his seat before sitting down, threw a towel and then yelled, "Bennie," toward the court. Bryant then leaned back and muttered what appeared to be a gay slur.

TNT announcer Steve Kerr picked up on Bryant's outburst and said: "You might wanna take the cameras off of him right now, for the children watching from home."

"The video from Tuesday's game is under review by the NBA," league spokesman Tim Frank said to ESPNLosAngeles.com via email.

Bryant was not initially available for comment.

"We haven't seen the video, so it would be inappropriate for us to comment on it," a Lakers spokesperson told ESPNLosAngeles.com on Wednesday.

The Lakers are battling the Mavericks for the second seed in the West. They beat the Spurs 102-93 on Tuesday.

On Monday, the league rescinded Bryant's 15th technical of the season. If it had stood, he would have received his 16th on Tuesday and would have been suspended for the Lakers' season finale. If he receives another T on Wednesday, he would be suspended for the first game next season. Technical counts start over in the playoffs.

I don't see the big deal, he was pissed and called the guy a <Censored>. Maybe it's because I hate gays, but I find it funny. Yeah, it's a bad example to set especially out of a star player, but there are fights in every game nowadays calling a ref a homo or <Censored> isn't as bad imo and is funny to me.

have you guys seen those anti-gay slur commercials?
like a kid says, that's so gay when he doesnt like something. he doesnt mean gay as in homosexual, he's just so used to saying what he doesnt like is gay. im guilty of this too, and no i dont hate gays. i think they should be able to marry, but thats a different topic

just heat of the moment kobe was pissed. he got 2 fouls and a tech in like 10 seconds.

he apologized and that should be the end of it.
blown out of proportion, but it's understandable that it was

Pretty much how I feel about it too (aside from the hating gays part, they should have every right that others do imo but that's off topic). I hate Kobe so it's funny to see all these people get pissed at him over it but it's really not that big of a deal, people say f** all the time. The terms f** and gay have two different meanings these days.

Every professional athlete has been guilty of this. It's competitive.. People get fired up, and things don't always go your way.

Kobe got mad, and he acted out.

I don't get the HUGE deal around this? Honestly.. It's blowing shit up like this that makes this whole Gay issue even worse. Why do we need to make this 3012302139x bigger than it needs to be?

Wait, all this because he called the ref a <Censored>? I've always thought it was some term my 20 year old mind wasn't grown up enough to understand or know.

Because calling someone a gay slur is the worst type of insult you can call anything because its degrading to those who are gay. It makes someone sound very unintelligent in my opinion.

OK.. but by making it THIS big of an issue, and having ourselves talk about it like we are. It's just sparks more drama for the opinions on gay movements.

I'm sure we can find other athletes who have done this, and nothing has been said.. It's just the heat of battle. Guys say stupid stuff.
